Under the Freedom of Information Act, a person has a right to ask to see recorded information held by public authorities. The Act covers all recorded information held by a public authority. It is not limited to official documents; it covers for example, drafts, emails, notes, recordings of telephone conversations, CCTV recordings and some other information. This is different to a subject access request which relates to personal information held by a local authority. See also How to Access Information from a Public Authority  (ICO).
